Nolan: No U.S. Aid to Syrian Rebels

Last week, 153 Democrats and Republicans joined me in opposing an ill-conceived and dangerous amendment authorizing U.S. military equipment and training for a Syrian rebel force calling itself the Free Syrian Army (FSA) – supposedly to battle the ISIL terrorists now occupying large tracts of Iraq and Syria.

The measure eventually passed, and set the stage for U.S. military escalation in the Middle East that experts predict could cost a minimum of $5 billion to $10 billion annually for years to come – in all likelihood leading to U.S. boots on the ground in a centuries-old sectarian conflict for which there can be no American solution.
